Description

The Axon TM 2500 (S) is a flexible multi-axis machine ideally suited for manufacturing complex parts in a single setup. With a swiveling milling spindle, main spindle and counter spindle, the multi-axis turn-mill machining center offers an exceptionally good price-performance ratio.

Whether it involves 6-sided machining or complex geometries requiring 5-axis interpolation, with the Axon TM 2500 you are always optimally equipped for all current machining requirements.

Technical Details

Main Spindle (Direct Drive)

The digital main drive guarantees very high torque in the lower speed range if required, as well as constant power values at high speeds. Since both power and torque specifications depend on the duty cycle, short-term peak performance is possible without overloading the machine or reducing speed.

To reduce the thermal effects of the motor on the spindle and the headstock, our motors are thermally separated from the headstock via a cooled radiator plate.

In addition, all work spindles are cooled via a separate cooling circuit. This further reduces the possible thermal expansion of the spindle and thus increases machining precision.

Swivel Head

The machine concept enables full simultaneous 5-axis machining of workpieces, as well as 6-sided machining.

The swivel head, clamped via a Hirth serration, guarantees maximum stability and perfect turning as well as milling results.

It can be swiveled continuously from -40° to 220°.

Tool Changer

The integrated automatic tool changer has a standard capacity of 32 tools (optional 72). During tool changes, the tools are guided directly from the tool magazine to a pre-positioning station by means of a double gripper, from where they are transferred to the spindle at high speed. Tool selection is bi-directional via the shortest path. The tool magazine is located outside the working area, thus optimally protecting the tools. The tool magazine can be loaded from outside and thus performed during main machining time. This significantly reduces machine setup times.

Main spindle

The main spindle is designed as a motor spindle and comes standard with a 3-jaw chuck with a diameter of 208 mm and an A2-6 spindle nose. The main spindle can be clamped and braked via a disc brake. Alternatively to the jaw chuck, a collet chuck can be used.

Counter Spindle

The counter spindle is designed identically to the main spindle (motor spindle), so that the same applications can be transferred from the main spindle to the counter spindle without restrictions. The counter spindle is moved via a controlled axis, and through this capability, part transfer from the main spindle can be performed. The advantages of a motor spindle are therefore equally present on the counter spindle: power, speed and precision.

Machine Column and Basic Structure

The new multi-axis turn-mill machining center TM 2500 S is designed for complex manufacturing of complicated parts and forms. The gantry design provides high rigidity and concentration of accelerated masses. This creates the prerequisite for its outstanding dynamic concept. AC motors in the turning and swivel axes correspond to the latest development status of highly dynamic machine tool construction. The machine frame of the TM 2500 S consists of heavily ribbed “Meehanite cast iron”. The entire construction is characterized by high thermal stability. This enables dynamic load capacity of the machine and guarantees low-vibration operation, optimal accessibility with a larger working area and reduced floor space requirements.

Calibration Software (Option)

For optimal milling results, all 5-axis machines must be calibrated at regular intervals. The correlation between the linear movements of the machine and the spatial shifts of the zero point due to the rotation and swiveling of the table axes make calibration essential.

As an alternative to time-consuming manual measurement and correction of individual axis values, we offer an optional system for automatic measurement and self-calibration of the machine. The calibration cycle runs automatically and the corresponding correction values are independently transferred to the control. Measuring the machine is completed in a few minutes.

Part Catcher

Optionally, a part catcher can be installed on the main spindle. Part removal can be accomplished either via a discharge conveyor or a simple storage box into which the parts fall.

Slides and Guides

The optimal spacing of the roller linear guides is calculated and optimized through precise measurements. The end result is a machine with the greatest possible stability and machining precision. High-precision, extremely wide linear roller guides are used as guide elements for the X, Y, Z axes. These are the most important prerequisites for accurate milling results. Direct measuring systems from Heidenhain ensure high repeatability and positioning accuracy.

The TM turn-mill center features drilled-through and cooled ball screws to ensure maximum precision. This further improves the thermal stability of the cast construction. Consistently high accuracy at varying temperatures can thus be achieved.
